Converting the Mount Rawdon Operations gold mine into a sustainable, low-cost, large-scale pumped hydro power station.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Mount Rawdon Pumped Hydro Project will be the first working gold mine in Australia to be repurposed as a power station and energy storage facility, with the capacity to generate 20,000 megawatt hours of electricity each day.

Located 75km south-west of Bundaberg near Mount Perry, the Project is expected to create around 800 jobs during construction and 30-50 jobs to support ongoing operations once construction is complete.

The Project is progressing through feasibility studies and related approval processes involving the Queensland and Australian Governments, with construction expected to begin in 2027 (conditions permitting).

SUPPORTING AUSTRALIA’S RENEWABLE ENERGY AND JOB PLANS

REPURPOSING OF EVOLUTION MINING’S MT RAWDON OPERATION

Converting the Mt Rawdon operation into a low cost, large scale pumped hydro power station at the end of the mine’s production in 2024.

Project Benefits

JOB CREATION

800 jobs during construction. 30 to 50 long term jobs during operations.

renewable energy storage

20,000MWh of renewable energy storage, with up to 2,000MW of generation and enable an additional 5.8GW of new renewable generation to enter the network.

Supply 2 million homes

Supply 2 million homes daily during peak periods. Helping Queensland meet its target of 50% from renewable sources by 2030.

EXTENDING VALUE BEYOND MINE CLOSURE

International showcase for transition from end of life mining to a commercially attractive energy infrastructure asset.
